Everton and Liverpool are facing a huge week in the Premier League, as they’ll play two games in four games following the postponement of their match last month when the Reds made it to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Although there’s a huge gap between Everton and Liverpool at the table, that won’t matter much on Wednesday given the magnitude of this rivalry, and both sides are in dire need of a victory for different reasons.

For the hosts, winning this game would massively improve their chances to maintain their top-flight status, especially after being given yet another points deduction by the Premier League recently.

Meanwhile, a victory for the visitors would give them a leg up in the three-way title race between themselves, Arsenal, and Manchester City.

Everton further compromised up front

Everton got a much-needed 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday, with some help from the referees, as Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil both found the back of the net. However, they’re hit by a fresh injury blow ahead of Wednesday.

Beto was subbed in for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but he was eventually taken to the hospital following a nasty clash of heads with Morgan Gibbs-White during stoppage time. Fortunately for the Toffees, the Portuguese striker said that he was okay.

However, the Toffees will likely be without Beto as a precaution, so they’re hoping that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is going to be 100-per cent fit on Wednesday after he picked up a knock against Nottingham Forest.

If Calvert-Lewin also misses this game, Everton will have a shortage of options in the No. 9 role. Arnaut Danjuma will be their only legitimate striker left, if that’s the case, but the Villarreal loanee has been out of form lately.

In other team news, Amadou Onana can fight for a spot in midfield after taking the night off against Nottingham Forest, while James Garner is another candidate to start.

Liverpool flex their depth

Jurgen Klopp was successful in rotating his squad, as they’re coming off a 3-1 win against Fulham on Sunday, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ryan Gravenberch, and Diogo Jota all finding the back of the net.

Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, and Alexis Mac Allister all came off the bench, while Ibrahima Konate was given the day off, so all four of them should have fresh legs against the Toffees on Wednesday.

Liverpool’s schedule has eased up after they were eliminated in the Europa League and FA Cup quarter-finals, so their main focus is on winning the Premier League this season.

The Reds have enough depth to see this through because their injuries have also eased up, with Alisson and Trent Alexander-Arnold back at 100-per cent fitness.

Winning another Premiership is a perfect parting gift for Klopp, who announced his resignation a few weeks ago, although it’s not yet confirmed who will replace the German gaffer next season.
