West Ham United vs Liverpool

Fourth hosts second in a blockbuster Premier League clash on Sunday when Jurgen Klopp takes his Liverpool side to London to take on David Moyes’ West Ham.

The Reds have been in irresistible form again this season and are going along very nicely in both the domestic and European League; but what of the Hammers? Well, pretty much the same actually. Following a breakthrough season in 2020/21 West Ham qualified for the Europa League and have taken to European football like ducks to water!

But while Thursday night football has hampered the likes of Wolves and Burnley in the past, it hasn’t damaged West Ham’s league form one bit; they currently sit just two points behind Liverpool and so a home win would see them leapfrog the Reds. Liverpool come into the game on the back of a 2-0 Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, while the Hammers, having strengthened their position in the Champions League places with a highly impressive 4-1 victory away to Aston Villa, drew with Genk on Thursday night

The extra day’s rest might work in Liverpool’s favour, but they won’t be taking anything for granted when they take the pitch at the London Stadium.

Talking Points

1,000 up Moyes is magical for West Ham

Head coach David Moyes took charge of his 1,000th match as a manger away to Genk on Thursday but there is no question of him suffering the same fate as Steve Bruce did immediately after he hit four figures. While Newcastle is undergoing a tumultuous upheaval there is an air of calm at West Ham. Moyes took charge when the Hammers were in a relegation scrap in 2020 but he guided them to safety before leading them into Europe last season.

And the Hammers’ Premier League 2021 results have been every bit as good this season, with six wins, two draws and two defeats leaving them behind third placed Manchester City only on goal difference. At odds of 34.00 to win the Golden Boot Michail Antonio, with six goals, is once again spearheading West Ham’s attack; but in the victory over Aston Villa Moyes’ whole team showed how much quality they have. Young wing-back Ben Johnson opened the scoring with a beauty and then England man Declan Rice rounded off another accomplished all round display with a goal, after Ollie Watkins had equalised for Villa. Then, after the hosts went down to ten men when Ezri Konsa was sent off, attacking midfield duo Pablo Fornals and Jarred Bowen both got on the score-sheet.

This is a team full of confidence; the Hammers are still in the Carabao Cup at odds of 7.00 to win the first silverware of the season having seen off favourites Manchester City in the last round. They lead their Europa League group and they are at full strength for the visit of Liverpool.

Pick one from three for the title

Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson reacts during a Champions League match

The SBOTOP football odds make this a three way race for the Premier League title, with Manchester City (2.40), Chelsea (3.00) and Liverpool (3.50) all with serious aspirations to lift the trophy come May 2022. The next in line is Manchester United at a price of 33.00, while the Hammers are sixth favourites at 101.00.

The Reds need to get something from this game to avoid losing ground on Chelsea. They currently sit three points behind Thomas Tuchel’s Blues who have a home game against Burnley, while the Sky Blues are expected to triumph in the Manchester derby.

Klopp criticised his players’ body language in last week’s 2-2 draw with Brighton and they responded well by beating La Liga champions Atletico Madrid. And the way they destroyed Manchester United two weeks ago in a 5-0 mauling at Old Trafford, shows just how sensational this team can be. To perform like that in the biggest match in English football put down a huge marker for the Reds.

Their strikers are all bang in form. Mo Salah is odds on at 1.85 to win the Golden Boot with ten goals from ten games already, while Sadio Mane with six goals and Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota with four each make up a Fab Four.

Elsewhere on the pitch, with Harvey Elliot, James Milner, Thiago and Fabinho all injured, captain Jordan Henderson will play a key role in protecting his defence from West Ham’s attacking threat.

History

The Reds have dominated the head to heads, winning 32 of the 53 meetings in the Premier League era, while the Hammers have won ten and drawn 11.

Liverpool won 3-1 in the most recent meeting at the London Stadium to complete the double last season but, in terms of recent form there is little to choose between them.

Betting Tip

??
West Ham United vs Liverpool First Half Over 1.25 @ 1.94
November 8, 12:30 (GMT+8)

The West Ham vs Liverpool betting odds are backing the Reds. At 1.70 to win and 3.78 to draw the Jurgen Klopp’s team will expect to leave the London Stadium with something while the Hammers are at a price of 4.17 to delight their fans.

I’m expecting goals and both teams have the ability to race out of the blocks, so a couple in the first half would be no surprise.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)
