Ligue 1 will suffer a huge loss after it was announced that their golden boy is about to leave the league next season. Kylian Mbappe’s days in Paris are numbered, so PSG are starting to prepare for the post-Mbappe era, slowly but surely.

It’s a good thing that the Parisiens are on course to win their 12th league title since they are on top of the French top-flight table by at least nine points, and they can extend their lead to double digits if they win their matchup against Reims tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Nice are downtrodden because they haven’t won in a while. In stark contrast, Lyon have risen from the ashes because they’re no longer in the relegation zone.

Mbappe looking to make his final season with PSG count

In a not-so-shocking turn of events, the Kylian Mbappe has agreed to join Real Madrid this summer. However, that doesn’t mean that he’ll coast through the rest of the 2023-24 campaign since he continues to give it his all for PSG.

PSG are fresh from back-to-back league draws against Rennes (1-1) and AS Monaco (0-0). Against AS Monaco, Kylian Mbappe was taken off during the break after a goalless first half, but instead of joining his teammates on the bench, he instead chose to join his mother in the stands, which raised eyebrows.

But any murmurs about Luis Enrique’s disenchantment with Kylian Mbappe were put to rest when he played the 2018 World Cup champion the full 90 minutes against Real Sociedad in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 tie on Wednesday.

Against La Real, Mbappe shined once again, scoring his 27th and 28th goals of the campaign across all competitions. It was a reminder of what PSG will be missing next season.

During the post-match interview, Mbappe reiterated that his relationship with Luis Enrique is good and that he has no problems with him. Enrique also went on to heap praise on Mbappe, saying that he’s capable of recording “50 goals and 25 assists with any coach, any team.”

Winning both the Ligue 1 and Champions League will be the perfect parting gift for Kylian Mbappe to his supporters in Paris, and following last Wednesday’s victory, they’re one step closer.

Nice on a major slump

Nice might miss out on European football altogether next season if they don’t get their act right, as they haven’t won a single league match since a 1-0 result against Metz in late January.

After a valiant effort to hold Brest to a goalless draw to start February, Nice lost to AS Monaco, Lyon, Toulouse, and Montpellier, while enduring another uninspiring draw against Clermont Foot.

Because of their poor run of results, there were rumours that the club’s upper management might consider sacking head coach Francesco Farioli, but sporting director Florent Ghisolfi has rejected such notions.

Ghisolfi believes that Farioli is still the man for the job and that he doesn’t want his manager to “feel in danger.”

It’s going to be a busy week for Nice next week, as they’ll take on PSG in the Coupe de France quarter-finals in a tie that they’re deemed the underdogs in, according to the latest Ligue 1 2024 odds. After that, they’ll face Lens three days later.

Can Lyon make it back to the Top 10?

Lyon have experienced an upturn in form under manager Pierre Sage, as they’ve won six of their last seven games across all competitions. Because of this, they moved up to 11th place in the French top-flight standings.

Alexandre Lacazette is a huge reason why Lyon have roared back from the dead. The former Arsenal striker now has 12 goals this season, level with Lille’s Jonathan David for second place in the Golden Boot race.

During their impressive run in the league, Said Benrahma, Orel Mangala, and Maxence Caqueret managed to open their accounts for Lyon. Benrahma and Mangala joined on loan from West Ham United and Nottingham Forest during the winter transfer window.

Believe it or not, especially after what they’ve gone through this season, Pierre Sage’s men have a realistic shot of winning a domestic trophy since they’re into the Coupe de France semi-finals, where they’ll face Valenciennes next (a Ligue 2 side). After that, Lyon can tack on more points against Nantes, but they’ll have a brutal stretch in April, where they’re scheduled to face Brest and PSG in just a span of seven days.
